Hi, my name is Dr. Kristamarie Collman also known as Dr. Kristamarie. I’m a Family Medicine physician, wellness enthusiast, and blogger based out of sunny Orlando, FL. In my practice, Prose Medical, I help treat people with allergies and also suffer from them too. Therefore, I thought it would be great to collaborate with Molekule Air to share a few ways we can reduce allergens in our homes.

Allergic reactions range from annoying to deadly. A significant amount of modern medical research has been devoted to not just understanding how the immune system fights off pathogens, but also why it goes awry creating allergic reactions. The most effective way to stave off an allergic reaction is to avoid exposure to allergy triggers altogether, but for many of us, exposure to allergens from pollen, pets and other common sources is unavoidable.

It’s not just you, everyone’s allergies are getting worse, and some of us are starting to get allergies when we didn’t before. Triggers for respiratory allergies are present throughout the year. February through May is when trees spread their pollen. April through September air is full of grass pollen. August through late November is when the weeds are active spreading pollen. In the winter there isn’t much pollen, but we spend more time indoors with mold, dust, and pet dander.

Mold growing in an AC unit or in your home’s HVAC system is a serious problem, because it allows mold spores to be spread throughout the house. Cleaning up an HVAC mold problem is a difficult and possibly expensive task. The best way to deal with mold in an air conditioner is to control moisture and prevent it from happening at all.

Air quality is a top concern for those in wildfire smoke-affected regions, as there are possible health effects of inhaling smoke. What are the short and long-term effects of wildfire smoke on your health? How do those health effects interact with conditions like asthma or allergies? We can answer these questions by looking closely at what wood smoke is made of and analyzing the medical research.
